Realization of Genre Analysis on Students’ Essay: A Classroom Discourse Perspective

Discourse analysis area becomes an essential issue in teaching and learning English Indonesia. Through applying this approach, the lecturer as researcher can analyze students’ texts written during their writing course. This study was aimed at reporting realization of genre on essay. employing discourse writers selected 3 essays by freshmen from Early Childhood Education Department, Islamic College Putra Galuh Ciamis. In analyzing texts, employed context culture or so-called ‘genre analysis’ to determine social function, generic structure, linguistics feature essays. study, writer then addressed research questions: (1) How is function realized? (2) structure (3) The findings revealed that retelling past events for purpose informing entertaining which shown title text. first essay entitled: “Student’s Skill Competition”, second “Visiting My Grandmothers’ House”, third “Holiday Pangandaran Beach”. Meanwhile, covered: (a) introduction tells orientation, (b) sequence order they occurred, (c) a conclusion re-orientation. Moreover, focused specific participants, use tense, material process circumstances time place. conclusion, dealing with realized whole essays, analyzed were categorized recount texts.
